Noted oil painter and watercolorist
Louise Gillis was born in California and raised in northern Minnesota.
An accomplished representational artist, she studied at the University
of Minnesota and completed a four-year program at Atelier LeSueur in Excelsior,
Minnesota with additional studies at Atelier Lack in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The Atelier, a studio school of fine arts, consists of a four-year program in drawing and painting from nature, eight hours a day, five days a week. The school combines
the 19th century European tradition of drawing with Impressionistic color
theory.
Louise has studied in Tokyo, Japan and Madrid, Spain and was resident artist at the Adzak in Paris, France, the Black Hills, South Dakota and Maui, Hawaii. She has also extensive
museum study of the old masters and impressionists in the United States
and Europe and was a registered painter at the Tuileries in Paris, France.
Most recently, she has completed a mural of a vibrant bistro scene at the Amsterdam Bar and Bistro in the historic district of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
